- 1) Define your goals -- What IS success to you? Be honest. The path you take will be different depending on your goals.
- 2) Have a system for gathering ideas -- (Note cards, or an "idea file" on the computer.) Trigger ideas with the newspaper, journaling, idea walks, eavesdropping, etc.

- 3) Write every day. Writers must write! Time? You'll never have time -- must MAKE it! Set up a schedule.
- 4) Study the craft. Learn about plot, characterizing, organizing, slanting articles, etc. Read, take classes, practice.
- 5) Revise what you write.
- 6) Send out what you write. Learn to Market Effectively.
- 7) Get a support group with other writers. A critique group, or writing organization can be helpful. Find one today!
